How does the A3M Tsunami Alarm System work?
First earthquake registrationThe TAS receives earthquake and tsunami warning information from a multiplicity of seismic measuring stations and tsunami warning stations from different countries all over the whole world. As a subscriber, you can be sure that your TAS does not miss any warnings and that any tsunami warning will result an an alarm being sent to your mobile telephone as soon as possible.

When we send a tsunami alarm to our subscribers, it is particularly important that it does not go unnoticed.  The TAS reliably ensures that our subscribers and other people you may want to warn can apply life-saving measures several minutes before the arrival of a destructive tsunami.

In a poll, 2/3 of our subscribers recently have stayed in high-risk areas where no outdoor sirens for local tsunami alarm are available. (RMC subscriber poll in Nov./Dec 2006).

Where does the A3M Tsunami Alarm System work?
Tsunami Alarm SystemThe TAS works everywhere in the world covered by the GSM network assuming that your mobile telephone is logged into a GSM network in the country where you are staying. Even in the poorest developing countries and in remote areas, the GSM network is usually just as well-developed as in highly developed countries, such as Europe or the USA. When you travel in areas accessible to tourists, you should not encounter any problems with the reception of mobile phone signals. The following principle applies: Wherever you can use your mobile telephone for calls, your TAS will also be able to receive tsunami warnings.

Where does the data and the information about the earthquakes come from? Are these data reliable?
A large number of technical skills and resources are necessary in order to warn quickly and reliably of possible occurrence of tsunamis: Seismic sensors measure earthquakes; pressure and speed sensors in the oceans assess fast changes in water quantities in the sea. Additionally, satellites constantly observe the earth and the seas by means of radar. If noticeable changes are ascertained, additional early warning information comes into operation: Potential earth- and seaquakes are verified again, the area concerned is located and a forecast is computed. With data from geophones, earthquakes and seaquakes are exactly located. Other technologies like the measurement of the complex electrical resistance or changes in radon and other gas concentrations are also used to forecast tsunamis.
If you receive a warning from the TAS on your mobile phone, you can be sure that the warning is as reliable as it is possible to be, and that the alarm and the position findings are dependable.

How can the quality of the A3M Tsunami Alarm System be guaranteed?
Our subscribers rightfully expect their TAS to be of the highest quality, because this is an absolute must for their safety and security. The system was conceived and invented by two scientists, A3M's Professor Dr. Eduard Heindl and Professor Dr. Wolfram Reiners. Both constantly supervise the quality of the system and through their ongoing research will continue to develop the system for your benefit. As you can imagine, this research is very costly and intensive. Therefore, we applied globally for a patent for the results.
Our subscribers benefit from the results of this research, which flow exclusively into the TAS.  The patent also forces any potential imitators to adopt other, less reliable technologies. With the Tsunami Alarm System, you can be sure to have the best and most reliable warning system in your pocket.
A number of enterprises and organisations support our research on reliable Tsunami alerts. Our special thanks and the thanks of our subscribers is expressed for these organisations:

  • 3MFuture Ltd., Sustainable Development and Information Technology, Charlestown, Nevis
  • Heindl Internet AG, Internet Development, Tübingen, Germany
  • PhiBlue Mobile, Mobile Technologies, Johannesburg, South Africa

Are false alarms possible and what happens in the case of false alarms?
In principle, false alarms by any warning systems means that people do not to take a genuine alarm seriously. This is particularly a problem with short pre-warning times and should be avoided as much as possible. Through a series of scientific research projects, our enterprises do the utmost to reduce false alarms. In these research projects we answer questions such as:

  • How can false alarms be avoided?
  • How can we ensure that our subscribers take an alarm really seriously, despite the rarity of Tsunami events, and apply the correct measures immediately?
  • How will the users of the A3M Tsunami Alarm System be warned reliably and effectively of a Tsunami hazard, at any time?

Only in this way we can ensure that you, as a user of the alarm system, can react quickly to the impending danger.
Subscribers to the TAS can assume that they do not receive false alarms. In case of an alarm for the region in which you are, you should therefore act quickly and apply the correct, life-saving measures.
If an alarm does not affect you, since you are outside of the specified danger zone, if you know of any relatives, friends or acquaintances who could be affected, inform them immediately.
